Gerard Rothschild
Gerard Rothschild has a broad practice encompassing Commercial Law, Competition Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, and EU Law.
Commercial Law forms the core of Gerard's practice, advising and representing clients in a wide range of business disputes, often with an international element. From his postgraduate studies, he has particular interests in restitution and the conflict of laws. He has recently been instructed in substantial LCIA arbitration proceedings.
In the field of Competition Law, Gerard's cases include Virgin Media v. BSkyB, a High Court action concerning the pricing of television channels; Chester City Council v. Arriva, a Chapter II claim relating to public transport; and the Construction Recruitment Forum penalty appeals brought by Hays plc and others. He is a contributing author of Competition Litigation: UK Practice and Procedure (OUP, 2010).
As to Public Law, Gerard taught Constitutional Law at Magdalen College, Oxford for 5 years. Court experience of note includes acting for Birmingham Airport in a judicial review concerning taxi licensing, and for DEFRA in a challenge concerning the control of tuberculosis in cattle. He is currently instructed in the Pay TV appeals against Ofcom, cited by The Lawyer among the 'top cases of 2011'.
In 2008, he was described in Legal Week as a ‘Future Star at the Bar'.
