Media and Broadcasting

Chambers have acted in a number of leading Media and Broadcasting cases in the UK including the abortion censorship case ProLife Alliance v BBC, the confidential information case Douglas v Hello and the Animal Defenders case concerning the ban on political advertising.

The European Court of Human Rights considered the issue of spectrum scarcity in United Christian Broadcasters v UK. Media-related legal issues within the Council of Europe were considered on a broader canvas by a member of Chambers who served as a legal expert on the Secretary General's media monitoring missions to Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Georgia.

In the competition sector, members of Chambers appeared for both commercial parties in the recent appeals to the CAT by BSkyB and Virgin against the Competition Commission's block on BSkyB's purchase of a stake in ITV.
