Nicholas Green QC
Nicholas Green QC is joint head of Brick Court Chambers. He specialises in all aspects of competition, European, regulatory and administrative law. He regularly appears before all levels of the domestic English court from the High Court to the Supreme Court and the Privy Council and in a range of specialist tribunal including the Competition Appeals Tribunal. In addition he appears in international courts and tribunals including, recently, in the higher courts in Hong Kong, in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of Mauritius, and in the Court of Appeal of the Caribbean in Grand Cayman.
He regularly appears as Counsel in international arbitrations on behalf of international companies and Governments. He also sits as an arbitrator, including recently sitting as a sole arbitrator in a substantial ad hoc arbitration in the transport sector.
At European level he has appeared in many Oral Hearings before the European Commission in competition cases and in approximately 100 cases before the European Court on a range of subjects with an emphasis on competition law but including cases on state aids, free movement of persons, goods and services, pharmaceuticals, intellectual property, company law, telecommunications, transport, energy and even agriculture.
During 2010 he was Chairman of the Bar Council of England & Wales. This was a full time position which involved him leading negotiations with Government on behalf of the profession on all issues from reform of criminal and civil justice systems to legal aid reform. He represented the profession internationally at conferences and in bilateral negotiations. This entailed leading delegations to countries and regions such as China and the Arabian Gulf. He returned full time to practice at the start of 2011
