Cambridge University obtains injunction against protestors disrupting graduation ceremonies

28/02/25

Following a hearing in the High Court on 27 February 2025, Mr Justice Fordham has granted the University an injunction against “Persons Unknown” with the effect of prohibiting protestors from disrupting the graduation ceremony due to take place at Senate House this Saturday.

Three graduation ceremonies over the last year have been prevented from taking place at Senate House, following encampments by an organisation called Cambridge for Palestine in Senate House Yard. On each occasion, the University has had to move the graduation ceremonies to other locations. Recognising the harm to the University and graduating students (and their guests) caused by this disruption, the Court granted a time-limited injunction. The Judge ordered a return hearing to be listed in March 2025 in order to consider whether a longer-term injunction should be made.

The judgment was reported on the BBC and is available here.
