Croatian corruption claims dismissed in major arbitration; Croatia v MOL

19/01/17

A UNCITRAL arbitral tribunal has just rejected far-reaching allegations of corruption made by Croatia against Hungarian oil and gas company MOL. Croatia claimed that alleged corruption involving former Prime Minister Sanader should nullify MOL’s rights in Croatian company INA.  The tribunal has rejected all Croatia’s allegations.

Maya Lester QC successfully argued that all documents relied on by Croatia that it had obtained from Hungary through its criminal mutual legal assistance powers were inadmissible in the arbitration.

Maya Lester QC was instructed for MOL by Peters & Peters and Dechert LLP, assisted by Hugo Leith and David Heaton.
