In what was claimed to be a test case affecting many other producer compliance schemes, the Environment Agency prosecuted WEEE Light for alleged breach of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Regulations in allegedly over-collecting quota in significant amounts that were said to distort the market. However, after a second Pre Trial Review at Sheffield Crown Court the Agency has abandoned its high profile prosecution. At the Pre Trial Review the trial judge expressed comments about the prosecution after hearing argument from WEEE Light's Counsel.
Richard Gordon QC appeared for WEEE Light at the pre-trial review, instructed by Blake Turner.
