Jeremy Gauntlett SC advises South African Presidency on claims arising from Marikana Disaster

18/12/15

South Africa's Presidency has announced that claims arising from the Marikana disaster two years ago will be met through a dispute resolution process to be conducted by a retired judge, an actuary and medical expert.

Some 40 mineworkers, police and mine security officials and rival shop-stewards were killed in disturbances on South Africa's platinum belt near Rustenberg.

Claims exceeding R800 million have already been instituted in the High Court, Pretoria.

The Presidency has appointed Brick Court's Jeremy Gauntlett SC to advise it on the process.
