Mark Howard KC, the joint head of Brick Court Chambers, successfully acted for AerCap, the world’s largest commercial aircraft owner, in a High Court insurance dispute over aircraft stranded in Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine. Mr Justice Butcher ruled that the aircraft had been lost resulting from actions of the Russian government and that contingent war risk insurers were liable to indemnify AerCap for more than $1 billion — one of the biggest awards by a UK court in an insurance dispute.
