Sam acts in all areas of commercial litigation and arbitration and has assisted, during pupillage, with a number of cases involving allegations of serious fraud. Examples of cases on which he has worked include:

• Hoffman & Greenbaum v Finalto Group Ltd & Gopher Investments [2026] EWHC 921 (Comm) – Sam acted for the defendants in a dispute arising out of the sale of a fintech business (Finalto), which involved contractual claims brought by Finalto’s former CEO and COO, as well as counterclaims for fraudulent misrepresentation (as a pupil, assisting Craig Morrison KC and William Hooper).
• Optiemus Infracom Ltd v BlackBerry Ltd – Sam acted for the respondent in an appeal concerning the correct test for determining whether to strike out a claim on the basis of socalled ‘Grovit’ abuse (as a pupil, assisting Craig Morrison KC). The underlying action is a claim arising from alleged breaches of a licensing and services agreement by which BlackBerry provided the technology for mobile phone handsets in India.
• Thurrock Borough Council v Kavanagh – Sam acted for the claimant in a high-profile civil fraud claim arising out of the alleged misappropriation, by Mr Liam Kavanagh, of funds invested by the claimant in bonds linked to solar energy (as a pupil, assisting Craig Morrison KC).
• IPJSC United Company Rusal v Whiteleave, Potanin, Crispian, and Abramovich – Sam acted for the defendants in a high-value civil fraud dispute arising out of the management of Norilsk Nickel, the world’s largest producer of refined nickel (as a pupil, assisting Craig Morrison KC).
• IDRC 2026 – Sam acted for the defendant insurers in an arbitration claim concerning an alleged breach of a credit insurance policy (as a pupil, assisting Craig Morrison KC).

Sam acts in all areas of competition law. Examples of cases on which he has worked include:

• Infederation Ltd and others v Google UK Ltd and others – Sam acted for one of the claimants in abuse of dominance actions against Google in relation to the market for comparison shopping services (as a pupil, assisting Colin West KC).
• Tesla, Inc and another v Interdigital Patent Holdings, Inc and others [2026] UKSC 27 – Sam acted for one of the interveners in a Supreme Court appeal concerning whether the English courts have jurisdiction to hear a claim by Tesla for declarations as to whether the terms of a global platform licence of standard essential patents are fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory (“FRAND”) (as a pupil, assisting Colin West KC).
