License To Unwired Planet Patents Could Cost Apple Over $8B

Law 360, 24/10/2019

Huawei brought the case to the Supreme Court, arguing the licensing rate isn't reasonable because it covers a global license, rather than just U.K. patents. Huawei contends that Unwired Planet should have to pursue legal relief in countries that issued its other patents. Apple is among a handful of outside companies that have intervened in the case. While discussing the potential commercial impact of the lower court's ruling Tuesday, Huawei's attorney, Mark Howard of Brick Court Chambers, said Unwired Planet has launched proceedings against Apple based on the same patents that are at issue in Huawei's appeal.
