Mr Newby, a member of Dignity in Dying, is launching a new challenge to the law criminalising assisted dying. He is determined to live well with his family for as long he can, but fears that without a change in the law he may be forced to suffer against his wishes as his illness progresses. Paul Bowen, representing the former environmental consultancy boss, told the Court of Appeal: 'He is certainly in the last years of his life as a result of an untreatable disease, Motor Neurone Disease which is certainly progressing at a pace which is likely to leave him incapacitated in a foreseeable number of years.
