The U.K.'s Competition Appeal Tribunal has ruled that a government official timely issued a public interest notice over a Saudi Arabia state-linked deal to buy large stakes in the Evening Standard and the digital successor to The Independent. In the decision, dated Friday, the tribunal found that the U.K.'s secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport had timely filed a public interest intervention notice under the Enterprise Act 2002 over the deals, but also ruled that a deadline to refer the matter to the Competition and Markets Authority for a full investigation expired July 1. … LHL and IDNM are represented by Sarah Ford QC, instructed by Bristows LLP .
