Brick Court and client firms go head-to-head for charity for the second year

15/07/22

As part of its centenary celebrations last year Brick Court hosted a dragon boat racing event. By popular acclaim the event returned and, after the success of last night’s event, the Brick Court Dragon Boat Race is now firmly established as an annual fixture.

The event is not only about (usually) friendly competition; it continues to be run as a fundraising event, and through it we continue to support our four centenary charities: IntoUniversity and the Sutton Trust, our main charities (40% each of the money raised) who both do vital work to improve social mobility and access to education and the workplace nationwide; and Advocate and the Access to Justice Foundation (who each received 10% of the money raised) who do excellent and important work on access to justice. We are extremely grateful to all participants for raising so much money (over £21,500, with donations still coming in), and thank them all on behalf of all our charities.

Yesterday evening at the Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre, a Brick Court barristers' boat and a Brick Court clerks' boat took to the waters. The Sutton Trust also fielded a boat this year, and we were delighted also to be joined by the following firms who entered crews:

  • Addleshaw Goddard
  • Dentons
  • Hausfeld
  • Herbert Smith Freehills
  • Jones Day
  • Peters & Peters
  • Pinsent Masons
  • RPC
  • Quinn Emmanuel
  • Signature Litigation
  • White & Case
  • Willkie Farr

The winner this year was Jones Day (narrowly edging out the Brick Court barrister boat).  The highest fundraising firm was Quinn Emmanuel, for the second year.  Also for the second year, Peters & Peters won the prize for the best dressed crew.

We are delighted that this event has now established itself as a firm favourite and an annual fixture. We thank all those who participated so enthusiastically this year, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
